Finger foods

Have you ever looked at a food and wondered,”Should I use my knife and fork or is this food OK to eat with my hands?”  If so, you’re not alone. Many an accomplished person has been baffled at the buffet.

Here is a list of foods that are perfectly acceptable to eat with your fingers. Try to be dainty about it!

Acceptable Finger Foods

    • Many Appetizers
    • Apples, when cut into quarters, or whole if it is an informal occasion
    • Artichokes, pull each leaf off one at a time and dip it into the sauce. Put the remaining leaf part on your plate.

  • Asparagus, yes, you may eat your asparagus with your fingers as long as it is crisp and not limp.
  • Bacon, eaten with the fingers or utensils
  • Bananas, eaten with the fingers when peeled, if served unpeeled on a dish, use your utensils
  • Barbequed/Grilled foods, if it is off the grill, you can use your hands
  • Bread, break off small pieces and butter each piece individually
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Hard Cheeses
  • Chicken, fried chicken is eaten with the hands on a picnic, and with utensils at the dinner table
  • Chips
  • Cookies
  • Corn on the cob, use your hands or those cute little corn handles
  • Desserts, ok for bite-sized and non-messy dessert items
  • French Fries, hands or utensils are acceptable
  • Hot dogs
  • Ice cream, on a stick or in a cone
  • Nachos
  • Nuts, if they are in a bowl, scoop them up with a spoon and pour them into your hand to be eaten.
  • Pickles
  • Pizza, can be eaten with the hands or with utensils
  • Sandwiches, obvious finger foods unless it is serve with a sauce like a hot open-faced turkey sandwich with gravy
  • Shrimp and shrimp cocktail, if it has the tail on, it’s finger food
  • Strawberries, whole strawberries only
  • Toast
