There is nothing Miss Meredith Sweetpea likes better than afternoon tea. This week, she had the delight of discovering Afternoon Tea at Victoria’s Restaurant at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The dining room is beautifully dressed, with photographs and images of Queen Victoria donning the walls.

The entire theme of this four-diamond hotel is Victorian, so you Victoriana lovers would adore it. From the opulently dressed common rooms to the hotel-room suites, to the dining room, you can step back in time to enjoy tea as Queen Victoria herself would have.

Afternoon Tea is served from Monday through Saturday between 3:00 and 5:00 in the afternoon (reservations are encouraged). And don’t forget to say hello to the resident cockatoo, Peanut, who lives in the front lobby. He’s 21 years old and a Plaza staple. See if you can get him to say “hello.”

Boardwalk Plaza Hotel Afternoon Tea Menu

The menu varies, but always includes:

  • Assorted Tea Sandwiches such as cucumber with Boursin cheese, English chicken salad. British egg salad, and turkey with Earl Grey honey butter.
  • Scones, Sweets and Fruits, such as Meyer lemon mini Bundt cakes, petit fours, flavored scones, cream puffs, chocolate-covered strawberries, and sugared grapes.
  • Your Choice of Fine Teas, brewed in individual pots, such as English Breakfast, Bancha, CTC Assam, Organic Green with Citrus & Ginko, Chocolate Tea, Decaffeinated Paris Blend, and a Tea of the Month.

The cost is reasonable, too, at just $19.95 per person.

Miss Meredith thoroughly enjoyed her stay at the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel and encourages you to enjoy it yourself. It is one of the only beachfront hotels oceanside in Rehoboth Beach, just steps from the main shopping avenue, the beach, and boardwalk amusements.
